NASCAR is a Sport

It is often commented, by those who are not fans, that NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) should not be considered a real sport. However, if one takes the time to learn more about the racecar drivers and the things they do, both on and off the track, it becomes more obvious that being a NASCAR driver takes a lot of skill and training.

While most drivers train daily and have a the strength of an athelete, some people still say that they are not atheletes because they can not perform at the level of professional basketball or football players. However, it does take skill, strength and endurance to be able to drive 185 miles per hour for four hours.

While famous basketball players on http://www.direct.tv specials must be able to run fast, a NASCAR driver must have perfect hand and eye coordination along with an attention to detail that, when used together can help the driver avoid a wreck that happens right in front of him at speeds pushing 200 miles per hour.

Driving for NASCAR is an elite position to be in. It is harder to become a NASCAR driver than it is to becomes a professional football player or basketball player. Besides taking talent, skill and experience, it takes a lot of dedication. Many drivers start out as young children in go carts and continue to graduate to bigger and bigger cars as they get older. Eventually, the ones who are good at what they do have the chance to do it for a living. But lose a few times, and they’ll see how fast their run is over.

Sounds like a sport to me.

Sports Provide Great Opportunities to Socialize Kids

Sports such as tennis, track, and golf are terrific and can teach kids a great deal about accountability. When a player faces an opponent in tennis, there is no one to count on but one’s self. Win or lose the match rests solely on the child’s individual performance. Team sports however teach life lessons that will be valuable in the classroom, the ball field, and the employment world once school finishes and the career starts.

A team sport such as baseball gets kids to learn teamwork skills. The shortstop needs the first baseman to make a catch when he throws her the ball. The pitcher needs that shortstop to field the ball, make a good throw, and for the first baseman to catch it. The eight other fielders playing behind the pitcher are all depending on the pitcher to throw the ball well and make their job as easy as possible. Baseball is a game of repeated failure even for the greatest of players. This means your child will inevitably learn life lessons such as not winning a game even though they may have played well. Your child will learn to encourage those teammates who have failed and be encouraged by teammates when they fail athletically themselves.

Basketball is also a great team sport to teach teamwork and fair play. It is difficult to succeed on a basketball court unless players are sharing the ball and finding the open player. The failure of one player often leads to the loss for a whole team and children can learn exceptional life lessons from being part of a loss while they may have performed to expectations.

If anyone had a magic answer for the question, “How do you become a professional athlete,” they could retire to their own island. But if becoming a professional athlete is one of your life’s goals, there are a few tips that can help you along the way. Having a solid picture of the goals you want to achieve is important no matter what you want out of life.

First, focus on just one sport. Though many athletes are proficient at several sports, focus on the one that you love the most. This is likely the sport that you have the most talent in. Your natural talent for the sport is only part of the equation. Hard work and determination are also necessary elements for a successful athlete.

It is not always necessary to play on the best college team to move to the professional level of play. Pro recruiters keep their eyes out for talented players all over the country. While a strong, high profile program can get you a lot of media attention, playing on a smaller team is a good way to showcase your talents and show how you stand apart from the rest. It is not necessary to look for a smaller college to play for, but ending up there is not a death sentence to your potential career.

An athlete does more than work at the game. Professional athletes take care of their bodies, because that is the tool of their trade. A good diet, properly resting injuries, following the advise of doctors and avoiding drugs and tobacco are all part of a successful athlete’s regimen.

These two elements are every bit as important to a sports team as the level of athleticism you possess.

If you are currently on a sports team or thinking of joining one in the future, here are some tips and advice you can use to help improve your teamwork and sportsmanship skills.

Work as a Team

Even though you might feel as if you are light-years ahead of your teammates when it comes to your skills on the field, you need to play as a team. This requires you working with your teammates and listening to what they have to say, in an effort to create a unified front when playing your chosen sport.

Support Your Other Teammates

Showing support to your teammates is the easiest and best way to show your teamwork and sportsmanship. Families Growing Together with Sports

When children are little, finding appropriate things for family entertainment/outings is usually easy and rewarding. However, as children grow into teenagers, family “fun” can  be disastrous, if not downright boring.

Some ways to help families enjoy each other’s company through the growing years is to play together early in the game. Sports and games have a way of helping a family bind together.

For instance, playing ball as a family can make fond memories that last a lifetime. Of course, many children play in local ball teams but there is something special about a family that can play tennis together or throw a baseball back and forth.

Tetherball or a backyard foursquare game is an inexpensive way to learn to play together; even a badminton court can be set up with very little expense.

Board games can become a family tradition that will span the age of self-doubt that teen years often bring forth. Some families have a history of fun games for the holidays or occasions when a family just needs to be together; a time without a lot of energy spent on grades or accomplishments, either negative or positive.

Family poker can be a fabulous way to rally the family together. Having a penny jar for the players’ “high stakes” is always enjoyable.  A family outing to pick out that perfect custom poker table that is exclusively for family poker night can be the most exciting family night of the year.

Remember, it is never too late. If you are not playing together as a family, then dig out the old ball or the put away tennis rackets and start now! And be sure to start everyone on the search for that perfect custom poker table. You won’t be sorry.

Basic rules for football…

A football field should be 360 feet by 160 feet in size, including a 10 yard scoring area at each end of the area is called and End Zone. There are two goal posts and at 10 foot cross bar they use for field goals and the extra point. The game is divided into 4 quarters and there all 15 minutes long, at the end of the second quarter there is what they call half time and its 12 minutes long. There are only 11 players for each team allowed on the field per play, the positions on a team is split into offense and defense. Offensive player are quarterback, wide receiver, and center, Defensive player are defensive ends, line backers and cornerbacks. At the beginning of the game a coin toss will, which decides which team will defend, the winner of that coin toss chooses what team does what. The points score in a game can be made a couple of ways, such as touchdowns and field goals. Touch downs are when a player runs the ball and make it to the end zone or catches it there, which earn the team scoring it 6 points. Once those point are score the team can either kick a field goal which is 1 point or run and pass the ball into the end zone for 2 points, but the field goal must make it through the cross bars of the goal post to even be put to their score. These are just the basics to get you by for now, and get you started.

Some basic rules of baseball…

The field in baseball has and infield and an outfield, in the in field there are bases, pitcher’s mound and home plate, in the outfield is where player catch the ball or where foul balls go. The equipment of baseball is balls, the bat, and the gloves or mitts, the balls in baseball must be 9 inches, covered in cowhide with cork or rubber in the middle. The bat is a hard round stick that can be either metal or wood and that depends on the player preference. Gloves and mitt are more for fielding, they are made with padded leather, and it’s also used to protect player hands from rapid speed balls. The game of baseball consists of 9 innings, each inning is divided in half called top and bottom, each team that is playing has nine players in the batting order, that batting order should be kept the same at most times. If you miss hitting the ball 3 times it’s called a strikeout, but when the ball is hit into the outfield, that person who hit it needs to run to a base,  they can run to more than one base they should. Some difference between college football and the NFL…

The biggest difference in college football and professional football is that the NFL players are called professional and they get paid, but most people know that. In college football there isn’t a 2 minutes warning like there is in the NFL, the 2 minute warning comes at the end of each 15 minute quarter and it’s a mandatory timeout. So basically the NFL player get to regroup and plan and the college players play right straight through to the end. In college the 2 point conversion starts at the 3rd yard line, in the NFL it happens at the 2nd yard line which means the college player tries from a further distance. One on the most important differences between college foot ball and the NFL is that in college if you are carrying or catching the ball, and your knee hits the grass, the play is over, you’re done, in the NFL you have to be forced down to end the play. In college football the clock stops whenever the first down is made, but in the NFL the clock still runs after the first down, unless the player goes out of bounds or someone is to call a timeout. Also in college football the receiver must have full control over the ball and get one foot in bounds for it to be considered a catch, In the NFL they must have both feet in bounds to be consider a catch. With college football when the game goes into overtime, each team is given equal opportunity to try and score, they each get possession from the opponents 25 yard line, being the defense on a college time in overtime is best but in the NFL its better to be the offense because if the other team scores first the game is over.
